Dental Abscess/Facial Swelling

An abscessed tooth can cause excruciating pain that radiates to the whole side of the face and facial swelling. You may also find it very painful to chew on the tooth.

Knocked-Out Tooth

In the event that you knocked out your tooth by accident, it’s imperative to keep the tooth so your dentist can reattach it. Gently flush the tooth in water or milk, and securely store the tooth by tucking it inside your cheek to keep it moist or in a clean jar of milk, making sure to keep the root flawless.

See your dentist at the earliest opportunity so they can evaluate the harm, it is often possible for the tooth to be placed back into position by splinting it to the adjacent teeth.

Mouth Injuries

If you had trauma and the tooth has been knocked out, it is essential to act fast. Please ring us and we will make arrangement for you as soon as possible. Patients suffering substantial head, neck, or facial trauma should attend to the nearest hospital emergency department first.

Any injury to your mouth may chip, crack or break a tooth.  An injured tooth may become loose or moved in position. A throughout examination by a North Lakes dentist is required even though if there is no obvious damage to the crown of the tooth but the root of the teeth could be fractured.

Tooth Sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity is different from a toothache, with approximately half of the population experiencing it in some form. This sensitivity is caused when the gum recedes and exposes the root of the tooth (dentine), which is not covered by a protective layer of enamel.

The dentine is made of small tubules that allow messages to be sent to the nerve, signalling that you are eating something cold, acidic or sweet. The result is the horrible, sharp feeling of tooth sensitivity.

The crown of the tooth is not immune to sensitivity either. The enamel may form microscopic cracks or be eroded by incorrect brushing techniques, acid foods and digestive problems.

Sensitive toothpaste is designed to block the tubules that send these messages to the nerve. If you find that this toothpaste doesn’t work for you, your dentist may be able to use a stronger professional treatment; so please remember to mention any sensitivity issues you may have during your routine examinations.
